B.Ed. (Hons), Advanced Post Graduate Certificate in Teaching Children with Literacy Difficulties
Jo’s interest in Special Educational Needs began 24 years ago, when she spent her NQT year in a Swansea mainstream school, which had a Special Educational Needs Unit attached to it. Since then, she has taught across the primary range with experience of both mainstream and special schools. Jo spent 12 years as a successful SENco, and has shared her knowledge and skills by supporting many Oxfordshire schools as a Special Needs Advisory Support Teacher (SNAST). For part of her time, Jo has worked for the Dyslexia Assessment and Intervention Service providing specialist advice for pupils with Literacy Difficulties.
Jo is able to conduct specialist assessments and provide comprehensive advice to support the learning of children with a wide range of special needs. As a SNAST she has supported many newly qualified SENcos to develop good SEN provision within their schools. She has coached schools through successful inspections, encouraging them to become ‘Ofsted Ready’ by setting up effective systems to evaluate and monitor SEN provision.
Jo is able to provide training to teachers, support staff and parents on a variety of SEN Topics, including Assessments, Dyslexia, Multi –sensory Learning, and Precision Teaching.
